Two week introduction to handbuilding and glazing ceramics led by Hannah Rose Whittle. The first class will cover making with various handbuilding techniques, including pinch pots, slab building and coil building. Come along with your own ideas and make functional or sculptural objects!
The second class will cover the basics of glazing, you will finish with your very own glazed ceramic items for use in your home. Hannah Rose Whittle is an artist and researcher focusing on process led explorations into sustainable ceramics practices, highlighting material agency and knowledges. BUILDING BIG — MULTI-PART THROWING
Tuesdays 6th & 13th of May 6 - 8 pm Each participant has the freedom to explore this technique in their own way, whether it be through intricate measuring or wild explorations of height. By the end of the first day, all the components are thrown, ready to be merged together. The next day, we can start trimming and preparing the parts to be put together. Day 1: Planning & Throwing

COIL BUILDING

Two week course covering traditional making with coil building and glazing ceramics led by Hannah Rose Whittle. The first session will cover making with the ancient handbuilding technique of coiling, guiding you through making your own objects - bowl, cups, pot, bottle or vase.
In the second session you will learn how to glaze your objects using traditional ash based glazes.
Please note that there is a week break between sessions to allow for drying and firing the pieces before glazing. ASH GLAZES WORKSHOP

10.00 - 12.30 AM Two week Ash glazing course led by Hannah Rose Whittle. This course will cover how to process and mix glazes with ash, a variety of bio-ash will be provided and you are welcome to also bring your own. In the first session you will be introduced to ash glazes, make test tiles and some initial glaze tests. In the second session you will make glaze samples and develop bespoke recipes to take back to your studio practice. All tests will be fired in an electric kiln.
